DIY tricks around the home to save you cents

Updated: Feb 2, 2021

Who doesn't like to save money?

During this pandemic most of us are home probably more than anytime in our lifetime. During the warm months I decided to plant an herb garden and that gradually led to planting different peppers, romaine lettuce and tomatoes. This led to save some money when I had Bbq's and started using the romaine lettuce to replace the hamburger buns and of course the joy of growing something on your own is priceless.

I also upgraded my thermostat to a WiFi enabled thermostat and I was able to get a rebate from my energy supplier for the upgrade. Im not sure if this saves any money but it does sure save some time by using an app on my smart phone or using my Alexa/Google/Amazon voice assistant.

I got even lazier by upgrading some of my bulbs to smart bulbs, you no longer need a hub to control the lights, they are LED and quite affordable. It is also controlled by an app or my voice assistant. These bulbs can work independently or altogether with an array of different colors. Luckily I found these or else I was going to look for the clapper. No longer I have to get up and cut off the lights or forget to turn the lights off, you can also schedule to turn them off within the app thus saving time and money.
